Unit 8 Blog

Hello everyone,

The first exercises that I got the most out of were the last unit 7 when it asked you to focus on a particular person and I could not stop focusing on my late mother-in-law Kelly. It did bring me peace and joy to think of her and remember how lucky I was to have her in my life for as long as I did. I was relaxed because she used to always be the one to listen and give me advice. She would always say, pray on it Marci. Being that I was not the most religious one in the family it made me feel better just knowing that I had her on my side. I would pray and still do.

The second exercise that I got a lot out of was in unit 3 our wellness and how we would rate ourselves so that we can know our strengths and weaknesses. The reason that I liked this exercise is because if you don't know where you are and how you rank you never will be able to improve on the things that you have to and keep up with. Then you realize that there are things that you are doing well in and how you can maintain that level. Achieving a balance is my overall goal and this exercise gave us the base in order to move forward.

I now can use these findings and create my own "mental fitness" program in order to achieve my goal of having a good balance. I know that physically I need the most improvement so I have been trying to change my diet, avoid eating after 9pm, walking the dog at least 3 times a week. Things of this nature. Mentally I have decided that today is a new day and what happens happens. So stop letting the past creep in and go with the flow. Meditate on a regular bases to calm the mind and relax. Spiritually I would like to start going back to church with the kids because it made me feel good just to be there and listen and sing. Over all I need to give myself a mental break and keep moving forward. I am blessed in so many ways! Have a great week everyone.

  1. Marci,

Thanks for the early post. I liked your thoughts on remembrance it helps that it brought you piece. I’m thinking that your busy mind with school, work, & family was searching for trusted or peaceful advice.

I understand the thoughts on diet I’m also watching what I’m currently eating. I think at age 49 I’m better than some but I still would prefer to stay young enough to help with future grand kids one day.

Stay the course with walking your dog. Slick move hiding him from your past now he gets to be a full time part of your future.

A great church is always a nice way to go. I’m guessing decent ones can be found. Stay strong has we all have learned much this term, I hope that we both can implement the teachings into our daily life.

  2. Hello Jeff,
Thank you for responding to my early post. lol I am really happy that I took this curse because it has made me realize that I can work on things that I need to work on myself. There are things that I can improve like walking the dog more and especially STOP eating after 9pm. I work nights and I get into this habit of eating around 3am. I too really want to be around to help take care of the grandchildren someday. I too feel that I am not doing too bad with the aging process but know that I could feel much better. So that is the motivation to feel better from the inside out and then it will start to show on the outside. Thanks again for your response. Have a great day.

  3. Marci,
I really enjoyed the unit 7 exercise as well. How wonderful that your mother-in-law had such a positive impact on your life! This exercise made me realize that I need to just take awhile to reflect on the positive things that people bring to my life more often. The second exercise you chose, the unit 3 exercise where we rated ourselves was definitely another good one! I agree that it is important to think about things that you are doing well at and things that might need some improvement. I feel like overall this class has been very beneficial for me and it appears that it has been for you as well! :)

Also, you have such a beautiful family! I just noticed the photos you have on the side of your blog page. :)

It would be awesome to worship with your family. As you may already know this will open up your mind to a realm of life that will bring healing and understanding. Meditating has become a way of life for me. I was just reading about meditating while walking and focusing on when your feet hit the ground don't let your mind venture away from hearing your foot steps hit the ground.

  5. Hello Marci,

Great blog. I agree, I did like the exercise where we evaluated ourselves. It is always nice to know the places where we can improve. If we never knew, then we could never improve ourselves.

I also think we are all blessed in so many different ways, but at times, it is hard to see. We get so wrapped up in our stressful lives, we forget to count our own blessings that we some times take for granted.

    Have a great week.

  6. Hi Marci,

Wonderful blog! It's truly a blessing to have people in your life like Kelly that is on your side. Having someone there to listen and provide advice is something to be truly thankful for. Its good to remember how blessed you are and to be thankful for all that we have. I think this is a good way to stay positive and to help eliminate the negativity that can surround us at times. Good luck with your routine!!!
